Tavares VW Bus 2022

Tavares, Florida | VW Bus Squared

Stacy Dudley is one of those guys. He’s always wanted a shortened VW Bus. He found and bought a shortened 1960 Single Cab Transporter on line. It wasn’t actually the Bus he wanted, but it was close enough. Since, it had already been shortened, most of the heavy lifting was already done (or so he thought).

After owning the shorty Single Cab for a little over a year, Stacy wanted to turn it into a stepside pickup. He thought an old ’50s or ?60s style stepside bed would look perfect. While searching photos of classic pickups for inspiration, Stacy realized front fenders from a Beetle would make perfect rear fenders for the truck bed. The next step was to figure out how to make it happen. Stacy found some fenders on Craigslist belonging to Brock Tillman of Tavares, Florida. Here’s where things get interesting. Brock just happens to be a master metal fabricator, building custom trikes out of old Beetles. Brock showed Stacy some of the awesome projects he had done, so Stacy asked if he would be interested in building the bed for the shorty. Brock said he had always wanted to build a shorty Bus. The deal was struck for Brock to finish the project, as long as Stacy gave him free reign to incorporate his ideas into the build. [VW Trends Magazine]
